This stitch is good for filling small shapes such as leaves or petals. Each stitch is worked from the outer edge to the center line. When the stitches lie right next to each other, they overlap at the center line.

You can make the edge cleaner by outlining the shape first with Outline Stitches or Split Backstitches. This also will give the shape a raised look
