The Scotch Stitch consists of diagonal stitches making a square on the canvas.

The beauty of the Scotch Stitch is that it can be altered and combined with other stitches to make lovely patterns. In the following pictures, some of the stitches have been rendered in a different color in order to emphasize the pattern. In your actual stitching, of course, they can be the same color if you wish.
