Normally, one row of smocking does not split or cross another row. However, the Trellis Stitch, because is is so long, is easily adapted to a crossover technique.

First, smock a Geometric pattern with Cable Stitches and Trellis Stitches (Step 1). Now, change to a different color, and smock over the first pattern so that the Trellis Stitches cross the previous ones (Step 2).
