The Whipped Wheat Stitch
adds a striking effect to smocking. It has the appearance
of a Satin Stitch line, similar
to the Trailing Stitch.
Start with a line of Wheat Stitching. With a second thread,
come up on the left side of the first pleat. Without piercing
the fabric, thread the needle through the first stitch,
both Outline and Stem (Step 2). If you use a tapestry
needle for this step, it will be easier to avoid piercing
the fabric. Continue on in this way until all the Wheat
Stitches are wrapped (Step 3). |
