FRENCH KNOT OVER TWO PLEATS

Often, when embellishing a smocking design with French Knots, you may want to position the knot between two pleats instead of on a pleat. If you make the knot in the valley, it will sink between the pleats and not stick out the way you want it to.

Start the stitch on the top of a pleat, just as with a French Knot over one pleat (Step 1). End the knot in the top of the next pleat (Step 2). The stitch will hold the two pleats together, and sit right on top.
